Today is Martin Luther King Day. I am fortunate enough to have the day off from my day job, like many others. As I planned my day, I was inspired today by the above quote. I could have relaxed and caught up on tv, or taken a nap, or even gone to a movie. But that isn't what today is about. Today is about planning how you can help others. So, like I needed the motivation, worked on Open For Service.
This organization originated as a way for the people of Indiana to show how welcoming we truly are. And it worked! Boycotts were halted, conventions stayed, and stereotypes broken. But it really isn't over. It won't be over until we have protections for EVERYONE across the globe. We have focused much of our attention toward the LGBT community, but we must not forget the discrimination faced by people of different races, faiths, and gender.
So today, I think about the people who are discriminated against. I work on my, "day off" to figure out how to make Open For Service help more people, more businesses, more communities, and more organizations to stand up and provide safe places to go. That is really our focus. We are building new technology that can accomplish this. A lot of it never seen before. We are more than just a business directory. We are a provider. We are a network. We are a community. A community that believes that discrimination is bad business. A community that supports each other, even if we do not believe in the same things. A community that goes the extra mile to show the compassion and support to others.
So as you ask yourself, "What am I doing for others?" Change the thought to, "How can I do for other?" Want to be more involved with Open For Service? GREAT! We have all kinds of things you can do. So take the first step and send me an email - email@example.com. Tell me what you want to do, and we can go from there. Today does not have to be the only day that you consider serving others in your life. We are here for the long haul, *hopefully* and we can't do it without you!
REMEMBER - OPEN FOR EMPLOYMENT'S WEBINAR IS THIS WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 20TH AT 2PM EST. REGISTER HERE!
