Inclusiveness, Indianapolis, and Introspection

We take a lot of walks. Jeff and I try to chip out a little time of each day to take a walk around the downtown neighborhoods after our daytime jobs.  We talk about the ups and downs of owning a business, the discussions we have, and the news of the day.   A few evenings ago, we were walking down the cultural trail and a man noticed that we were holding hands and said, “Thank you for believing in love.”  While I never know who is or is not gay . . my gut is that he is straight, and for some reason . . it makes me feel even more valued in our community.

Recently, I gave an interview for WISH TV (http://wishtv.com/2015/07/07/grassroots-campaign-say-more-work-to-do-in-rfra-fallout/) in regards to Indiana canceling its out of state contract to help rebuild its reputation.  I felt like it was the perfect time to really speak on my admiration for the straight community, (The “A’s” in our little LGBTQIA acronym).   The recent SCOTUS rulings and outpouring of support has been such a motivating factor for me to continue to scale Open For Service to better serve us all.

That’s the silver lining in all of this, whether its RFRA, marriage equality, adoptions, etc . .  our allies continue to be on the front lines with our LGBT brothers and sisters creating a better life for us all.  I will personally say that none of your support has gone unnoticed or unappreciated.

I do want to give a HUGE shout out to Amanda Dorman and the team at Downtown Indy for all of their help in getting businesses registered and getting stickers out to everyone.  We hope that other downtown associations/Chambers of Commerce will follow suit.

If you are a member of our ally community – THANK YOU.  If you are looking for a way to show your love and support for everyone . . might I suggest Open For Service????

Keep the feedback coming everyone!  As Rachel and I continue to figure out how to increase our audience and put more money in the reserves, any/all help is appreciated.  Please reach out at info@openforservice.org any time and we will continue to celebrate our “Open Door Economy.”
